BLOGGING ON INSTAGRAM: GROW AND MONETIZE YOUR BUSINESS

If you're thinking about blogging on Instagram (and do it the right way), you're found this post for a reason! There’s never been a better time to start growing and monetizing your business online, and I’m about to show you exactly how to do it.

Instagram isn’t just a visual platform to scroll on during your free time. It’s a goldmine of opportunities for your business when you know how to leverage it. Let’s break down the key steps that you can take for start blogging on Instagram for a profit!

Blogging on Instagram

1

START WITH A NICHE

You’ve probably heard this a million times, but I’m gonna say it again: niche down.

There are millions of creators on Instagram and in order to get notices, you have to stand out. That doesn’t mean you have to reinvent the wheel—it just means you need to focus.

Pick a couple of related topics you're passionate about but also something that solves a problem or is connected with your business.

Let’s look at some real examples:

Fitness niche

Instead of being a generic fitness blogger, how about focusing on low-impact workouts for people with joint pain? Or quick at-home routines for people with no equipment? This kind of hyper-focus helps you connect with a specific audience that needs exactly what you offer.

Sustainable fashion

Go beyond “fashion” by honing in on ethical, eco-friendly fashion. Or narrow it further to vintage finds that fit a sustainable lifestyle. Now you’re not just a fashion blogger—you’re the go-to person for people who care about conscious shopping.

Food blogging

General food content is great, but try niching down to quick and easy plant-based meals for families. Or get really specific: 30-minute vegan meals for kids. That’s a niche that speaks directly to busy parents who want healthy, fast options.

Beauty niche

Instead of being all about beauty, zero in on clean beauty for sensitive skin or DIY skincare routines. This not only attracts a specific audience but also allows you to partner with brands that align with that focus.

The more targeted you are, the easier it is to build a community that’s obsessed with your content.

2

CONTENT IS (STILL) KING, BUT CONSISTENCY IS QUEEN

Content quality is non negotiable but consistency is even more important. That’s where the magic happens. Posting once a week is fine if you’re just here for fun but if you’re serious about blogging on Instagram to grow your business it’s time to level up.

Instagram rewards consistency, and the algorithm will favour you if you’re showing up consistently in your feeds, stories and reels.

Use a content calendar to plan out your posts, captions and themes. It’ll help you stay on track and ensure you have always something to post.

WHAT KIND OF CONTENT SHOULD YOU POST?

Here are some ideas to get the ball rolling:

How-to tutorials: quick workouts, skincare routines, step-by-step guides etc - people love learning through short informative clips.

Behind the scenes: Show your process! Whether you're packing orders, designing a product or prepping for an event, people are curious about what goes on behind the curtain.

Customer testimonials: Nothing builds trust like happy customers. Share UGC (User Generated Content) and reviews from clients or customers to validate your brand.

Product demos: If you have a product, showcase how it’s used in real life. Show your audience how it can make their lives easier or better.

FAQs: Address common questions you get in your DMs. Use stories or reels to answer them in a fun, engaging way.

Story polls and quizzes: Engagement is key, and story polls or quizzes are an easy way to involve your audience. Ask for their opinion, quiz them on a topic, or let them vote on what content they want to see next.

And don’t forget that blogging on Instagram is hard in the beginning only - the more you do it the faster and easier it will get.

Aim to post consistently for at least 90 days to see the progress and real growth.

MASTER INSTAGRAM REELS & USE STORIES

If you’re still avoiding Instagram Stories or Reels because you feel awkward on camera, you should start working on overcoming this fear if you are interested in blogging on Instagram for profit. Because these formats are where the real engagement happens. Stories give your audience a glimpse into your daily life and build deeper connection with your audience. And reels are crucial for growing on Instagram right now - it is the fastest way to gain new followers, so try to focus mainly on video content.

Instagram blogging

What are the best practices for creating viral reels?

💡Post frequency

For Reels, consistency is everything! Aim to post 3-5 reels a week. The Instagram algorithm loves frequent content and the more Reels you post the higher the chances one will go viral. This increases your visibility and brings new followers to your account.

💡Timing

Some say posting times don’t matter but others say post during peak hours when your audience is most active. Generally, morning 9am-11am or evening 6pm-9pm. Use your Instagram Insights to find out what times work best for your audience.

💡Hooks that grab attention

The first 3 seconds matter most. Use text with hooks to grab people’s attention. For example:

“You won’t believe what happened when…”

“3 simple ways to [solve a problem]…”

“Watch till the end for a surprise…”

Hooks like that make viewers stop scrolling and engage with your content.

💡Trending audio

Right music is very important for performance of your reels. Keep an eye on trending audios — using these can give your content a massive boost. But don’t just hop on trends without context. Choose audio that complements your video and improves the perception.

Hint: Trending audio is the one that has a little arrow sign near its name. You can always save it to the collection to use for later in your reels. Pro tip - try to use the trending audio with less than 10k uses for better effect.

💡Virality

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel—sometimes jumping on viral challenges or trends can be enough. But remember to make it your own by adding your personal touch and a little bit of a twist.

If you are a fitness coach, join a popular workout challenge, but adapt it to your unique style.

For a fashion blogger, you can try to style the same outfit in multiple ways and encourage your followers to do the same with a specific hashtag.

💡Captions and Hashtags

Be sure to craft your captions to be engaging and encouraging the interaction. Ask questions, prompt users to save or share your reel, and don’t forget to use niche-specific hashtags to boost discoverability (it’s a good practice to use about 5-7 hashtags, both broad and specific).

Now, here’s a bonus tip for Reels: the algorithm loves shares and saves. So create content that’s highly shareable or so valuable that people want to save it for later..

4

ENGAGE, ENGAGE, ENGAGE!

I hate to break it to you, but Instagram isn’t just a post and ghost situation😅. If you’re serious about blogging on Instagram and monetizing it, engagement is key. And no, I don’t mean the lazy "like and leave" kind. I’m talking about genuine interactions with similar accounts and their followers:

Answer DMs, reply to comments, ask questions in your posts, and engage with other accounts in your niche. Instagram loves accounts that foster community, and the more you interact, the more your posts will get pushed out to new eyeballs. Plus, you’re building trust — and trust is what leads to sales.

Pro tip: try to engage on Instagram actively 5 minutes before and after posting your reel.

5

CONVERT AND MONETISE

Getting people to watch your Reels is one thing, but turning that attention into purchases or bookings? That’s where strategy comes in. As a small business owner or coach, reels can become a powerful funnel that moves your audience from viewers to clients.

Blogging on Instagram

HERE’S HOW TO DO IT:

Create a clear call to action (CTA)

Every Reel you post should have a purpose. Whether you're showing a behind-the-scenes look at your business, offering a quick tip, or showcasing a success story, always include a clear CTA. Direct your viewers to "check the link in bio for more details," "download your free guide," or "book a discovery call today." Keep it simple and direct—people won’t take action unless you ask them to.

Use a lead magnet to capture emails

Offer something valuable in exchange for an email, like a free checklist, mini-course, or exclusive video. You can create Reels that tease the lead magnet and get viewers interested. Once they click your link-in-bio and sign up, you can start nurturing that relationship via email to convert them into paying customers or clients. For example, a fitness coach could offer a free “7-Day Workout Plan,” while a business coach might offer a “Goal-Setting Worksheet.”

Link-in-bio optimization

Your link-in-bio is prime real estate for conversions. Make sure it’s optimized to guide your Reel viewers exactly where you want them to go. Use tools like Linktree or direct landing pages where visitors can easily access your services, products, or lead magnets. The fewer clicks it takes for them to find what they need, the better.

Nurture your audience

Reels can grab attention, but it’s the follow-up that leads to conversions. After someone watches a Reel and signs up for your lead magnet, don’t stop there. Use email marketing to nurture these leads by sending valuable tips, insights, and personalized offers. This builds trust and keeps your business top of mind when they're ready to make a purchase or book a service.

Use stories to reinforce your offer

After you’ve posted a Reel, keep the momentum going by using Instagram Stories to remind your audience about your offer. Share a behind-the-scenes look, show social proof like client testimonials, and keep driving home the CTA to “book now” or “check the link in bio.”
